Manuel Rapado Paneque, was born in Bayamo, Cuba in 1963. He received a Chemical Engineer and MSc, at Moscow D.I Mendeleev Chemical Technological Institute (1988) and Sc.D. from Havana University (2015. Their main Research Activities are the development of methods for biomaterial syntheses like hydrogel and nanogels wound dressing for skin treatment and drug delivery. Radiation Modification of Polymers. Microencapsulation and nanoencapsulation Techniques, Tutorials. He had been participated on 7 international projects, 5 from IAEA. He had been managing 5 Projects from the Cuban Nuclear Agency (AENTA) since 1997, nowadays he is managing a Project: Hydrogel Wound Dressing for the treatment of burned peoples at few Havana Hospitals. He had been published more than 30 international papers and had been in more than 35 international congresses. He holds a Senior Researcher position at Center for Applied Technologies and Nuclear Development (CEADEN) in Havana. He is currently an Associate Professor in Radiation Chemistry at INSTEC from Havana University and is the principal researcher of the Medical Registration of the Cuban artificial skin, No 1006013. He has received the following awards: Prize (6) from the Cuban Nuclear Agency (1990, 1994, 2003 2004, 2008, 2013.Prize from Havana University (2009).Prize (2) from the Cuban Academy of Sciences (2008, 2014).

 

Hydrogel preparation by gamma radiations and their applications as temporary substitutes for the treatment of bloody zones in Cuba.

Resumo
Since 2007, CEADEN began the development and implementation of polymer hydrogel preparation technology using gamma irradiation techniques for the treatment of bloody areas of the skin. His first experiences were carried out in the treatment of varicose ulcers of the lower limbs by phase I clinical trials performed at the INAVC Institute of Angiology. During 2012, CEADEN achieved the medical registration granted by the CECMED, which provided the possibility of beginning the introduction and generalization of the CEACEL hydrogel dressing in the National Health Services through its laboratory scale production. This dressing is a dynamic system, refreshes the skin, expands and contracts, allows gas exchange, is permeable to molecules of drugs and active principles, but impermeable to microorganisms. For this potential, CEADEN in 2013 implemented a new project with the objective of achieving the introduction of the hydrogel dressings in different hospital institutions of the Capital such as the Hospitals: Hermanos Ameijeiras, Calixto García, Joaquín Albarrán, Juan Manuel Márquez and Carlos J. Finlay. To date, more than 500 people have been treated with some type of skin lesion and steps are being taken to produce them on a larger scale.
